my dad (Saanta) and I just ordered new ram for our computers.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231358

were both currently running 6GB of ddr3 1600 (3x2gb), so the added 12 GB will bump us up to 18GB. I know its not necessary, but when you can buy 12 gigs of ram for $74, its tough not to, lol.

i myself have an upgrades list that id like to work on.

processor:

and the mobo to go with it:

my plans are to get the proc and motherboard, then set up a crossfirex setup after that. with ATI card being so inexpensive, im pretty sure i could build a killer setup on the (relativley) cheap

Looks like you're going to have a nice gaming rig to last for years to come :)

thats the plan, lol. im running an i7 right now and havnt had to upgrade my computer since i moved to it about 3-4 years ago. im pretty sure the 6 core i7 will do me well for even longer. after the proc, mobo and video card upgrades, im gonna migrate to a solid state drive (from a veliciraptor). windows 8 should be around by then, so ill be pretty stoked.

on the windows 8 note, i know that alot of you guys are probably gonna stick with windows 7 untill windows 9 comes out, with microsofts good-bad-good- bad cycle. but as a sys admin, the best way to know about os problems is to experience them first hand and that means running each version as it comes out. hopefully running a beasty selection of hardware will alleviate any performace drops.

windows is so similar to win7, its pretty much win7 with a touch screen optimized UI over it. I'm looking forward to getting a win8 tablet and ditching the laptop. most of the new features of win8 are for tablets, since its going to be a single OS for smartphones, desktops/ laptops, and tablets.

have you looked into intel srt? its a feature of z68 motherboards and gives ssd performance on a platter drive. you use a 64gb ssd for cache. if you don't use to many different programs, its a good option.
