I ran over a rattle snake on the bike trail lastnight, couldn't avoid it in time, it hardly moved. I tried to lift my feet off the pedals when I went over it but I couldn't in time because I was clipped in. I've heard in other parts of the country where they are more common people running over them and they bite the crank shaft. went back and took a couple pics of it. it didn't rattle at all, it was alive though. kinda wish it rattled, would have completed the experience of seeing one for the first time.

That's a really sweet bike Series...I see you went with disc breaks how are those working out? I wanted to get those but they didn't have a model with them in my budget and skill range.

450

I've attached a 150 Lumen LED lamp on the front, brighter then most lamps used on motorcycles with the exception of Xenon HID lights. Also got red flasher on the back, side mounted handle bars for more hand positions on long rides.

It's a good bike for an entry level mountain bike. Which is what I needed and could afford at the time. The seat however, hurts like hell.

that's definitely a good entry level bike. I use the front brake a lot when braking downhill, I think disc brake helps with not locking up and going over the handlebars. they also don't make that loud noise when wet. besides that, comp brakes are nearly as nice. I need to pick up a cheap head light, a few of the guys I ride with use these lights and they are really nice.

900 lumens! $100 is out of my budget for a light, but I heard that light is a cheap knockoff of a expensive light. i rode behind a guy using one and it is very bright.

what trails do you ride, theres probably a lot in texas. Edited Sat Nov 06 2010, 07:43AM

I would avoid any light that doesn't specifically say water proof...I've read horror stories about even damp weather causing corrosion inside this particular product's battery...and the LED company they use isn't necessarily bad but they use seconds instead of firsts. So you're going to get a mix bag (usually around 500 lumens) when it comes to actual max performance. I could overlook this if the thing was waterproof.

Also the reflector has a lot to do with how well a light performs...

Al ways try to see reviews first...

I gotta sleep but I'll get back to you on the trails I go on...just didn't want you go buy it before I let you know about the water issue.

I haven't heard any thing bad about it from the people I ride with, and we have very humid weather.

apparently the 900plus has the 1400 waterproof battery...why does the manufacturer not mention this unless asked in a forum?

I like the racer version having a helmet mount...very cool

and this should is something i came across a months ago but totally forgot about till i saw it in that forum again.

I think I'm going change my opinion and pick one of these up and dip the batter in some plastic dip...

This is what I got 3 years ago.

heres a poll on the magicshine: [-link-]

EDIT: just came across this: [-link-]
"GeoManGear has temporarily discontinued sales of Magicshine lightsets due to our concerns regarding the quality of Magicshine's lithium-ion battery packs. We have determined that the Magicshine battery packs do not meet GeoManGear's high expectations regarding product performance and quality. We are working with the manufacturer to quickly resolve these issues and will begin selling Magicshine products again after we have obtained a high-quality battery pack for our customers."

if you do a search on mtbr, you can find alot of talk about it before you spend the cash. I think I'm going to try and find something at home depot, theres a headlight there that has 200 lumens. the trail I plan on night riding on I know well, but I'll need a little light to do the group rides since they take place at 6, and it now gets dark at 6. if I have some of my own light, and I ride behind someone with a magicshine I should be fine, lol Edited Mon Nov 08 2010, 03:09AM

That's a shame =( I was actually gunna get it too and do my own macgyvering to make it up to expectations.

Anyway I think this is a good review of some lights...

[-link-]

I think if I had the money, I'd want an amoeba cree xp-g r5 or whatever it is...it's better then both the amoeba spot or the amoeba flood in this review...

[-link-]

check the bottom for pics of all three models.

The one trail I go on a lot is in Brazos Bend State Park. It's a bit odd, there's a lake you can bike around, lots of people walk it...but it's full of alligators. Sometimes they are on the trail sunbathing. In all my years of living in Houston, I've never heard of a single attack.

They all also have some trails with insanely steep climbs, and some easier ones too. I've been to two others but one was pretty lame and lacked a really good trail, and the other was a lot like Brazos but I can't remember their names. All of them seem to be plagued by inconsistent maps.

Usually have to watch out for snakes and other wildlife...and more then once there's been a nice big spider just hanging at face level...that gave me quite a start.
