That's when I will be done with my current job. It has gone downhill there. Not only did they threaten to leave to Kentucky unless we took a 23% paycut it is now well known that they had planned lay people off after the union voted yes on the paycut. They just wanted the extra votes, and now we're standing around with our dicks in our hands wondering WTF? just happened? I'm one of the guys that would probably be laid off. Permanently. They are offering a severance package, though. I'm taking it and am going to concentrate on school. I can't believe I spent 11 years at that place. July 1, 2011. That is the date. It feels really weird to choose my date of unemployment after 11 years. I can't imagine what going into retirement will be like. |

The union got blindsided with this one, but both are to blame. The union just kept trying to get more money and benefits for us and the company kept saying yes. It takes two to tango. The company told us, about 3 months ago, that they knew things were falling apart back in June of 2007. They just decided to do business as usual and ride it out to see what would happen. If they would have come to us then and asked us to take a pay freeze or even a minor cut, we would've been ok with it. Instead they waited until they were in dire straits and asked us to take the 23% cut all at once. They frak up and then asked us to pay for it. Not cool. Union or no union, that was a dick move. As far as politics go, I lean more to the right, but consider myself a moderate. I can find things about both sides that I like and dislike. My union has done some really good things. I'm still a union rep and I know I've done some really good things for my coworkers, but I also know that I'm being forced to fight for douchebags that keep frak up on a regular basis, and I hate that part. I gave trying to be sympathetic with those people. I just started telling them how it is and how it's gonna be. Needless to say I've gained some enemies over the years, but I don't care. The union isn't there to wipe your ass. It's there to back you up when you've been mistreated. So many people get that wrong. I could go on about my views of unions and corporations and whats happening here in Madison right now(I'm undecided about exactly how I feel about this), but I don't wanna subject everyone to it. I'm done with that company and that union July 1. |

HK, I'm sorry your job is frak you, but I believe this is an opportunity for you to move on to bigger and better things. Which is exactly what you are doing. That speaks highly of your character, my friend. Beside s, who'd want to move to Kentucky? Sheesh, those heartless bastards. |
