Well I managed to scavenge enough money from underneath the seat cushions so I can get myself a quadcore rig. Ram, Mobo, CPU. Getting a 3rd Party Cooler later on =P

Ripsaw G.Skill Ram
[-link-]

ASRock Mobo - Neat thing about this board, it goes for SLI and Crossfire, and is ready for the new 6 core CPU coming, also has USB 3.0, Sata 3, and eSata 3.

[-link-]

Bloomfield i7 930

[-link-]

No more freaking 25-30 frames per second on 2 GTX285's in SLI...

Nice rig... Get over 1000 watt power supply.. I am sure I am preaching to the choir here. Or is it singing?

Actually I've been running with this for the past 2 years.

So you would be singing =)

I currently have an E6850 in EVGA mobo with 8gigs of ram. Used to run it with water cooling...got sick of maintaining it. So I went back to passive cooling (air). Would have thought all that and two GTX285's would have given me good frames per second...but turns out that isn't the case. I've heard lots of miracles with quad cores though. Folks getting huge FPS increase. I expect to get the same.

That's actually a very good cpu per the Passmark benchmark guide [-link-]
I know the Ram is good too. I have some RipJaws that are running pretty sweet right now. Haven't had any problems with them.

That mobo looks nice, but I wouldn't try running either sli or crossfire with that second pcie slot only capable of 4x. Seems like it would hold your system back more than turn it loose. Other than that, the mobo has some nice numbers. Never had an Asrock before.

good stuff, interested to see how your fps improve, sell that old gear on ebay or a overclocking forums and get some of that money back.

I have a I7 920... Cant go wrong on the I7 series. Run BC2 at max graphics without any issues. Motherboard is an ASUS.. Like it because it has an overclocking interface.

If I understand correctly on the specs there are two PCI-E 2.0 16x slots and one PCI-E 4x slot. So I should be okay with a dual gpu solution. I've been looking at reviews about this board...both on overclocking websites and others and they all love it. The only card comparable with features costs atleast $100 more. And my brother has had great success with them in the past...I like how they added spacing on the PCI-E slots for those with dual slot cooled GPUs like mine.

Interest ing note, I can use my old dual core duo cooling fan on this mobo with my i7 CPU, ASrock is the only mobo company I know that does that, course I'm not going to do that but it might have use in the future.

Ah yes, sorry I misread the specs. I thought it was odd that such a board with all those features would do something like that with the pcie slots. Glad to see it was only me misreading. Lol.
