Maybe someone can past the below segment in the news section.

In order to give a quick glimpse of the game at the DigiChina show in Beijing, we created a shortened trailer so that attendees could get excited about the game quickly. We decided that just showing off PAX footage wasn't enough. We had a few new things added to the game and we thought this would be a perfect opportunity to show those off.

Antilogic81:
The "Intense Combat" section of the video literally blew me away, also I found out not too long ago that Mark Kern is the CEO and founder of Red5 the studio making Firefall...he was the Team Lead behind a little MMO called World of Warcraft and has worked on many other projects from Blizzard since Star Craft.

Here's a cinematic trailer...I believe it's legit.

I don't know, if they can recreate the masterpiece that BF2 was, I'd be pretty excited about it. 64 man servers sounds real nice. Sure as hell better not be another console port.. Edited Wed Feb 16 2011, 05:16AM

Dice has said they have separate teams working on each console and the pc for this title. The cancellation of both onslaught and the other battlefield game that was supposed to come out for the pc over a year ago seem to confirm this. But then again they said BC2 was the furthest thing from a port...and clearly it wasn't.

On the topic of Firefall, I'm super super super stoked about this title. I just hope we can get everyone to try it. Being free should make it an easy sell =P

Their CEO has hit gold before with just about everything he's touched as team lead at Blizzard.

I've been looking at the forums and I'm still not sure about that...I know for a fact it's free to play. But as far as being a title you dont' have to purchase...I do not know.

Also all the game graphics are currently shown in DX9 only. So what we are seeing isn't the best graphics you can eek out of game. Which means this game will scale really well for those of us who can't upgrade every other year.

Roger that Wiz =)

Edit:

Things that bear mentioning that I've seen in the videos and comments from the devs...

1. There are vehicles...so far we know there are smallish jetbikes that traverse the ground at high speed.

2. You can choose between jetpack and glider configurations but can't have both at once.

3. Items you purchase at the store will help you but not unbalance the game and create a division between those who spend money and those who don't within the game's store.

4. The game to an extent already uses multiple cores but in what way and how much is unknown.

5. PC only - they are very adamant about this. No development for consoles or OSX.

6. There is an integrated VOIP.

7. The game engine is the Offset Engine, it's heavily modded.

8. To stem cheating, the server host is set to not trust the client. But is still able to provide a robust and responsive gameplay. However, GMs will still be present and player observation are both considered the prime methods of preventing exploitation.

9. The game will support Eyefinity, at least they think it will as the game is already able to support non standard aspect ratios.

10. No test has been done but they are looking to have SLI and Crossfire support. Time is the only issue atm.

11. Terrain is all handcrafted, cliffs and overhangs are not separate models splashed onto a generic floor. So everything is flowing and doesn't look as though someone "placed" it there.

12. The setting is Earth in 2233 - 'The Melding' was an event and still on-going event that snuffed out much of human existence and warped the Earth into what it is now. The name of the even that happened before the melding is called Firefall. The place your characters play in is more akin to the eye of a hurricane. (Independent conclusion: Expansions will probably be justified as areas the melding has recently left/revealed. Indeed it could be that some areas will be cut off at the same time others are revealed...I could be wrong but I'm betting something akin to this will be done)

13. The bugs are not related to The Chosen (the main focus of attrition humanity must contend with) they are simply the dangerous wildlife that came with the coming of the melding. The Chosen also came from the Melding but their designs and purposes are unknown at the moment. We only know they are the enemy, a calculating and strategic enemy.

14. When asked why this game is free the answer given and I quote, "Why not have a AAA game free? That is what we asked ourselves."

15. When a squad kills an enemy the loot that is dropped is only visible to that squad and can be picked up only by that squad. As far as looting rules go there are none, it's FFA right now...this may change later.

16. There is no cover system...it's strictly run and gun.

17. The focus is on raising the bar for Co-Op, and lots of support for competitive clan armies with ladders and tournaments.

1 8. Your jetpack/ backpack is an energy provider which will deplete with use, some weapons will also use this energy pool as well as certain abilities.

19. There is an alt-fire function built into various weapons.

20. Crystite the mineral being mined in the thumper mission is used to upgrade your character's equipment and is a form of currency too.

21. Missions you receive are based on time of day, time of week, time of year, and even player actions.

22. There will be flashlights.

2 3. Armors will have many different designs.

24. Currently ammo is free and drops pretty regularly.

25. There are currently two hitboxes, the head and body on all creatures. Headshots will do more damage but the amount is still being decided on and tweaked.

26. Physics will play a role in how the world behaves as well as how your weapons behave.

27. This isn't an MMO...it's first and foremost a competitive team based shooter with elements of rpgs and other borrowed genres to create a truly unique game that isn't just your run of the mill shooter. And much deeper then GA.

28. V-G-S...anyone remember that? "Shazbot!" ...they haven't confirmed it but the dev team has mentioned how they were fans of quick verbal comm burps to convey messages without the use of a mic.

29. There are only two classes so far; medic, and assault. There is evidence of a robotics type of character (if the trailer is anything to go by).

30. Inventory hasn't been flushed out yet but there will be one.

31. Each class has a signature weapon that comes with their battleframe.

3 2. A Whiky Whacker is the official beverage in Firefall. It's a drink from the Catalina Island where the company retreat took place.

33. You can change you class at the battleframe station. But your level for that class of battleframe will not transfer over to another frame. So a lvl 50 Medic will be a lvl 1 Assault if he changes to it for the first time. The game will remember the progress you have on each class of frame.

That's all I know so far about the game.
