Since I know several of you already have this game and have found it difficult to start, I'll give you some tips on how to make the game somewhat easier to play. It is actually quite enjoyable once you get the hang out it. You're used to playing games that use the mouse for an Up, Down, Left, Right movement. For some reason, Elite Dangerous (ED) has defaulted to use UP, Down, Roll Left, Roll Right and that Roll is what is messing up your play. Imagine if you had to play your FPS games with the mouse using Up, Down, Strafe Left, Strafe Right. That would suck. Well, this is exactly why it sucks in ED too. So, you need to make changes to get back to what you're used to. Below are some screenshots I took to help you know where to make the changes. Load ED and go into Options. You'll want to make the adjustments under Controls. Ther e you will find choices under Mouse Controls and Flight Rotation. Set them just as I have in the screenshots - Make sure Mouse X-Axis is changed to [Yaw], Roll Left is changed to [A] and Roll Right is changed to [D]. The changes will give you basic controls that you're more comfortable with. You'll also want to add buttons for Docking since they aren't defaulted to any keys. Specifically, you'll need the Thrust Up and Thrust Down keys set. I suggest the [Page Up] and [Page Down] keys respectively, since it makes sense and you won't soon forget their uses. As for docking, you'll want to search and view Elite Dangerous Docking on Youtube. There's a short tutorial that shows you exactly how to do it. One thing you need to know about docking is that you need to face the correct direction. So, if you've landed on the dock and the landing signal is blue and you're still not "docked", just rotate your ship around until you're facing the right way. Quck tip: You pick up missions from the Bulletin Board and when you're done, you turn them in to the Bulletin Board at the mission finish. Quick tip: When in flight, find your destination by using the tiny world map and centering on the filled-in blue dot. More tips to come if any of you are interested. Hope this helps.    |
